OUR HISTORY
In the early 1900s small specialised transport unions were established throughout Australia in order to raise standards in what was a casualised, seasonal and low paying industry.
The continued growth of Australian transport led to the creation of the Federated Carters and Drivers’ Industrial Union in 1906, which later became known as the Transport Workers’ Union of Australia in 1939.
Since then, our Union has grown to over 60,000 members nationally, and covers workers in industries such as road transport, aviation, public transport, waste, local government, oil and gas, the gig economy and many more.
Our members have fought for a number of historic victories across Australia, including world leading transport reform, significant improvement to pay and conditions and many high-profile legal cases.
